Each new year as well as new time of life bring changes that when we see them and accept them and then take action to make them happen can bring us some amazing energy vibrations and a new perspective paradigm shift.

I’ve decided to sell of my line of characters, The Bebuddies. This is a big thing for me and it’s taken quite a few years to get to the place where I can see that I need to let them go. I can only hope that there is someone out there who see’s their Continue reading

2013 Holiday is Past and work-work begins

bow-i-am-dance-by-karrie-ross Years ago I painted lots more using watercolors. I painted a series titled “I Am The Dance”. It was of  dancers and the mixture of watercolor and pen & ink. I created a boarder and the dancers hands and feet broke through it… opening to the universe beyond. I used different weights of pen that created the wavy vibrations of the ink line. This one is titled “The Bow”.

I like this series.

2013 – 01 The New Year is Upon Us

2013 The New Year is Upon Us.

The tension builds within as I see the new year begin. I don’t seem to be able to get the thoughts to go in one direction, they scatter all over and then I’m exhausted.

Creating artwork is a process, sometimes… and other times it’s just a matter of doing something along the lines of, well, say painting. Picking up a canvas/paper etc and just making a mark or prepping the palette. When using a dry palette for Continue reading

Q: How do you know when a painting is done?

Answering the age old question of: “How does an artist know when a painting is done?”

For me… once I sign a painting, it’s done and is now time for the painting to talk to others…
cus it is now smart enough to have a conversation and know what it’s talking about!

And that’s all I’m gonna say about it…for now!

Red Dot: no name yet but looking good 36 x 24

I’m putting together another show for October… and painting and drawing my trees and what shows up… but a bunch of Follow The Red Dot paitings… I’m thinking they are going to make it to the show too.

For this one I took an older painting I wasn’t happy with and started fresh with the layers from the previous one showing through giving the texture I like to add in layering. I’m imagining trees on this somewhere so it’s trees and red dot… will post new image once finished.

Here’s one of the medium sized ones at 36 x 24

Billboard Project Detroit: Words to Live With

I stumbled upon a great project and I’ve been submitting for the past year different segments of my thoughts, life and art to be shown on billboards in big and small towns, and cities across the country. Truly exciting to see “me” on a billboard.

Here are some of my images and watch the full video below:

Trees are all around us. They are alive. “Hug a tree!” we’re told… and we do.
Los Angeles has a MillionTreesLA.com project that has inspired me to create my own world of trees…some walk, some sing, some remind us of times past. AND they are speaking hiakus. “My Trees Talking”  brings to light the hidden life of trees. Through my vision and whimsical perspective combining artwork and the written word. TREEs you want to HUG will come alive for you. These trees will not crystalize your thoughts, they are not architecturally rendered; they are not assaulting or disruptive, inanimate or recycled visions of times past. “My Trees Talking” are extremely present and attentive to life in the everyday moment you breathe…and the action of breath is what connects all living things.

I ask a lot of questions. That is how I get in the mood to create artwork. Every piece of art has the action of researching a question. Some ask. Others answer. My focus is on the energy of the process, the how, the why, the who.

The research for my October show led me to the “Million Trees LA” project and I learned that so far they have helped distribute and plant around 350,000 trees to date. Wow… beautifying LA and trees… how much better can it be…. So, I decided to make, “TREES” the focus and imagery for my show!

I then pushed the process to form a question, and decided to explore it more. My thoughts went to the “My ____ Talking” series of books I’m writing, then I asked, “How can I work another book Continue reading

Are You Flying out of LAX Terminal One ….?

Le Petit Jardin http://lepetitjardinairportlax.blogspot.com/

“Le Petit Jardin celebrates Los Angeles in bloom with over thirty-five works of art from twenty-six Los Angeles artists, each focusing on a different aspect of nature to create a petit jardin, a little garden, for this gallery space within the urban context of Los Angeles. From a painting of an impossibly lush lawn, to photographs of a single flower, we see how we are connected to nature and how it plays a pivotal role in the landscape around us in the Los Angeles basin.”

“Magic Garden”; 60×48; mixed media (pencil, oil, acrylic) on canvas

“Magic Garden” is part of the “Le Petit Jardin” Exhibit at LAX 2012 will be on display at LAX Terminal #1, July thru Oct. Arranged by: The City of Los Angeles, The Department of Cultural Affairs, The LAX World Airports Arts Committee, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery committee, Lead curator, Scott Canty, and Curator, Enilde Van Hook.
