The Energy Blooms series sub-set ‘happened’ with the purchase of a new brush. Oh, how I love brushes and this one called to me from across the art store… from of all things, the sale table! When I saw it, I thought, “How could a brush like “this” be on sale?” I picked it up, played with it on my hand, face, and the table. Held it close and at then the end finding a balance. I then started applying imaginary paint to an air canvas. I fell in love and bought it…the brush!

2010 Solo Show with 3D moving installation by Karrie Ross

If we don’t create …how can we affect change in the world?

—Karrie Ross

It is with this purpose that I create ART.

“Energized!” by Karrie Ross

Topanga Canyon Gallery announces the opening of its new show, “EnergiZed”, an exploration of personal energy generation and the fun we can have with it. Featuring new works by Karrie Ross, Los Angeles Artist.

The inspiration for the show, which opens on Wednesday October 13th, came to Karrie in the middle of preparing the artwork for the show… how “EnergiZed” she was feeling and seeing this energy translate into her art presentation. Part of the show will be an installation piece of movable discs, spinning energy out into the gallery and inviting you to participate in the fun.

“EnergiZed!” What’s YOUR energy telling the world?
runs from Wednesday October 13th through Sunday October 24th – two weeks only.

Gallery Hours are Wednesday – Saturday 10am to 6pm, and Sunday 11am to 5pm.

See the show and meet Karrie at the Artist Reception on Saturday October 23rd from 5 – 7:30pm.

Here are some photos of the exhibition and the “Planting Seeds” 3D installation piece.

This is a Panoramic view of the whole show! gotta love that setting on your camera. Mine is new, a SONY Cyber Shot, 14 mp.

This is the “Planting Seeds” 3D installation piece. There are 14 discs, all spin and three, the little ones, spin by motors. This was a spur-of-the-moment piece and was so much fun to create. I love the details and process of figuring out the construction. I’m working on getting more discs to spin, something to do with a pulley system… still researching but this is soooo great! Each disc is hand painted and drawn with pencil. Continue reading

Spiral Series new sub-category… Energy Blooms!

“If we see it, will it change our lives?”

I figure we all have a dream, something we want to put our energy toward making it happen. This sub-category of “Energy Blooms” creates a visual of one of the ways energy enters our lives. “Do you see it?” the image of the bloom… “Do you feel it?” the vibration of energy from the visual movement of imagery on the canvas…

I just ‘happened’ upon this look… I do a test of something new and there it is… I bought a new brush and was trying it out on some scrap paper, you know, getting used to how much paint it carries and how the brush responds to touching paper or canvas, the chemistry of the elements… so,  when I filled it up with paint, got a piece of paper and splatted it … the image showed up as the bloom of a flower… the swirling lines and drops of paint, another test I put my brushes through, help to increase the vibration the painting shares in eye movement and balance.

Take a look, tell me what you see and feel… I’m very happy with this look and glad I bought the lone brush on sale waiting for someone… ME … to show it some love!

At the TAG 2010 California Juried Open

An artist must be seen to make a difference.

Spiral Series: Disperse: Karrie Ross at TAG 2010 California Juried Open Show

And I was ‘seen’ by Karen Moss, OCMA, who juried the TAG California Open, August- September. My piece, Spiral Series: Disperse, was among 50 pieces chosen to be displayed in the TAG space at Bergamot Station, Santa Monica.

Spiral Series: Disperse is 24 x 18; mixed media (oil, acrylic, and pencil) on box canvas with drawn edges. The symbol is my abstract representative of a hand, an energy transmitter, and comes to life within the transitions of the spiral drawings as they overlap and create tangent connections. Allowing the artwork to keep giving energy to those who view it… and take them on a visual journey… ” the imagination is our preview of life’s coming attractions”.

Being in juried group shows are an important part of the ‘being seen’ process of a fine artist. Not only for building the exhibition listing, but getting the art in front of a variety of curators,  jurors and galleries.

Please take the time to join my mailing list for show and sale updates. The opt-in form is in the upper left column.

Karrie Ross with the “Birds” at the Topanga Canyon Gallery

“If Birds Can Fly… Why Can’t I?”

In the metaphor we live. I fly by way of my art. But August 13, 2010 we all flew by way of the “Welcome To Our House” show a the the Topanga Canyon Gallery. We had a great time and our special guests were birds and snakes and skunks and more. Check out the event at Topanga Canyon Gallery Online.

Blue Button Beach Birdhouse by Karrie Ross

Red Robin Robust Birdhouse by Karrie Ross

Part of the show was to decorate birdhouses of all kinds and shapes. It was awesome that each of the artists really showed their style in the houses they decorated. For mine I reverted back to the days of living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, my hippie/beatnik days… using  nature objects of bark and twigs, and resourceful with adding old buttons and toothpicks, topped off with primary colors of red, blue and yellow using stars and circles and squares.

"Birds-way" by Karrie Ross (humor from birds)

The second part of the show was to paint bird-ish paintings. For mine I added some humorous thoughts a bird might be thinking.

A portion of the proceeds from this show benefit all of the animals at the Nature of Wildworks education center.

Fine Art Process: Finding that new inspiration. SOLD prints available

A portrait of the people who make us smile. Taking from my son, Orbison, Cash, Holly, Belushi… using symbols found everyday yet attributed to certain feelings, a hat, sunglasses, suit and tie conjure up our relatedness to those who have inspired us over the years.

If you find yourself stuck on what to paint next… ask yourself a few questions and see what comes up. Look around your home, think ‘something you haven’t done before’ like a portrait or landscape or abstract! What happens will get your creative juices flowing once again.
